A Cartographer's Note

hellenistic / intuitive astrologer & ritualist currently based in santa fe, nm.

readings are framed around the desire to point people back to themselves: a deepening into the present, reflections into the past, and finding a jumping off point into the next timeline.

my practice has been informed by the traditional hellenistic framework, jyotish (vedic) principles, and electional techniques. I deeply value timing techniques: knowing the right time to begin, refine, release.

astrology first met me during a moment of release and grief in my late teens, and has ushered me into era after era since then, becoming a treasured path of study and practice. tarot has anchored me most in times I’ve needed to transcribe the invisible; most often in the eye of grief, or at the edge of change.

my intention as a reader is to steward people toward deeper pockets of their own awareness and experience: to help point out the areas of your chart you need to see at the time you, as the querent, reach out for a reading.

my practice is anti-colonial, queer, anti-racist and pro-freedom. I do not make judgement calls for you, or purport to know your life better than you do. readings are not fixed: time moves, paths open, you engage your will.

hellenistic

from
the hellenistic mediterranean, centred on alexandria in egypt, where babylonian, egyptian and greek traditions met.
circa
from about the 2nd–1st century bce to the 7th century ce.
primary notes
the root of western horoscopic astrology: whole-sign houses, sect (day and night charts), the lots, and time-lord techniques such as annual profections and zodiacal releasing. its voices include dorotheus of sidon, vettius valens and ptolemy.

jyotish

from
india. the name is sanskrit, often translated as "the science of light."
circa
roots in the vedic period, where it began as calendar and ritual timekeeping; the horoscopic texts most used today took shape over the first millennium ce.
primary notes
the sidereal zodiac, set to the stars; the 27 nakshatras, or lunar mansions; the dashas, planetary periods that time the chapters of a life; and divisional charts.

electional

from
a branch of practice rather than a place: found in hellenistic astrology, in medieval persian and arabic astrology, and in jyotish, where it's called muhurta.
circa
from at least the 1st century ce (dorotheus of sidon), refined in the 9th century by sahl ibn bishr.
primary notes
choosing the moment to begin, since a beginning carries its chart forward: attention to the moon's condition, the strength of the benefics, and the ruler of the matter at hand.
